Looking Forward to the Summer

She loves to ham it up, & I can't stop laughing.
______________
I am…excited for the summer to get here. Those are words I never thought I would say given my dislike for the infamous San Antonio heat. But I think there is a lot to look forward to in these upcoming months like the fact that our Big Bend trip is just around the corner! I can’t wait for the awesome hiking!(!!) We haven’t decided if we are going to do back country camping or just use a regular site yet but I think it will be really fun either way.

Speaking of hiking, I am pretty sure we are going to pay a visit to Enchanted Rock soon as a family. Stephen went there last weekend for some rock-climbing and reported back that it was absolutely incredible. Also near Enchanted Rock is Fredricksburg, home of some delicious peach wine according to a reliable source who should have known to bring some back to me (Stephen, ahem!)

But yes, I have big plans for this summer. Well, maybe not big for other people but certainly big to me. Here are some of my goals:
1. I want to take Sommer to the Guadalupe River
2. Grow more food in the garden
3. Find time to read for pleasure
4. Visit the beach
5. Write, write, write.
6. Exercise daily.
7. Send people letters and cards just because.
8. Create a recipe book. <3

What are your goals for the summer?

The Importance of Loving What We Do

It's taken me 23 years to realize this one simple truth: Do what you love & everything else will fall into place. I'm not saying that you should just up & quit your job expecting to win the lottery but more like the sensation you get when you're on the right path. For me it wasn't until I found out I was going to be a mother that I really reflected on where I wanted to be. Up until that point I had simply drifted, not overly happy with my life but not exactly sure what it lacked. In having Rosemary, I found my muse and three things happened: Writing, a love I had long ago put on the shelf to collect dust, came back to me like a long lost friend. I finally figured out what I wanted to "do when I grew up" and began my college education in psychology after a 5-year gap. And above all, I decided that my goal in life would be to seek happiness.

Life is too darn short to waste on things that won't help improve your environment. This means letting go of crappy friendships, trust me, there are cooler people you could be out meeting. This means learning to say no when your workload is already full. & lastly this means periodically asking yourself, is what I'm doing right now making me happy? If not, fix the situation!

And above all knowing that doing what we love takes courage. That every step you and I take towards a better life requires us to be brave, to not just test the waters but dive right in. It's a big ocean out there baby but what better place to swim?
