Yesterday was Earth Day but admittedly, I didn’t do anything
extraordinary to honor it. I didn’t chain myself to a tree to save a forest or
even go out of my way to clean up litter. But I did tend to our growing
container garden, adding things to the compost pile and recycling a bunch of
jars. I read The Lorax to Rosie after lunch and we played outside.
I constantly tell myself I should being doing more for
Mother Earth, but I also like to think I live each day as if it were Earth Day.
Because I do not feel environmentalism should be celebrated one day and ignored
the other 364 days out of the year.
I should do more.
We all should. But if I were to guess what my most important contribution to
the movement will be… I will have to say that it is the legacy I nurture with
my daughter. If we teach our children to respect the Earth by both our actions
and our words perhaps we can create a generation that is kinder to their world.
