Spring is here folks! Although for me, Spring pretty much started at the first sight of blue bonnets on the side of the road. I don’t know what it is that makes me so happy when I see them; perhaps it is their unmistakable shade of purple blue or that with them they bring the promise of growth and new life.
In honor of the changing seasons I wanted to share a quick tip with you all today on making your own cleaning solution. It is super easy and super cheap. Best of all? Chances are you already even have the ingredients it takes to make it too.
All you are going to
need is:
- water
- water
- white vinegar
- squirt bottle
- essential oil of your choice (I prefer lavender but if you
like the smell of normal cleaning supplies, try something citrusy like lemon or
orange). You can also use a little bit of vanilla extract too.
You don’t need the essential oil for anything other then to enjoy the pleasant scent while you clean. In fact a simple water/vinegar solution will work just as well and the vinegar odor usually goes away within an hour or so anyways.

To make the cleaning solution you will have to dilute the
vinegar with water depending on what you want to clean. For tough areas you can
use straight vinegar but for surfaces half a cup of vinegar and half water
should do fine. Add about 10 drops of the essential oil (add less or more
depending on how much of the scent you want). Shake it up and use it. This mix lasts for
about a week!

This is awesome, going to clean with this tonight!! Girl, you need to come join the Apothecary circle!!! And, make an eco friendly cleaning guide ebook or something, seriously.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to hear more about the Apothecary circle, it sounds interesting!
ReplyDeleteAs it so happens, something like a guide of sorts is being put together ;)
Super cool! Now just to find essential oils. So it's a half cup vinegar to a half cup water?
ReplyDeleteHey Sarah, you can find essential oils just about anywhere. Whole Foods and Central Market both sell them and there are also places online. I would put a bit more water than vinegar but it all depends on what you are trying to clean. Straight vinegar for really tough tasks or more of a mix for day to day grime.
