Happy Monday! On one of my long car rides this past week I
got to brainstorming ways we could all “go green”. It doesn’t have to be a major
lifestyle overhaul if you just do a little bit at a time. I try my best to do
most of these and I hope this can inspire you.
1. Bike, walk or rideshare. 2. Recycle. 3. Find new uses for
old things. 4. Bring your own bag when you shop. 5. Cut out foods with
preservatives. 6. Grow a garden in your yard…7. or start one in your community
to be shared by all! 8. Pick up trash whenever you see it. 9. Buy local. 10. Plant a tree. 11. Support green businesses. 12. Replace your plastic water bottle with stainless steel
one instead. 13. Turn your tv off (and computer!) and play outside. 14. Educate yourself on where your
favorite products come from. 15. Use a rain barrel. 16. Buy used clothes. 17.
Get rid of your unwanted things via Freecycle. 18. Say no to GMO’s. 19. Turn
off your electronics when you aren’t using them. 20. Line dry your clothes.
21. Build a coop and raise chickens in your backyard. 22.
Eat organic. 23. Donate to your favorite state park. 24. Change all the
lightbulbs in your house to CFL’s (it will save you $$ too). 25. Get your meats and produce from a farmer’s
market. 26. Make one day of your week meat-free. 27. Or give it up
altogether! 28. Borrow books from the library. 29. Make a compost pile. 30.
Give up your shampoo. 31. Make your own
lotions or conditioner with coconut oil. 32. Join a co-op. 33. Borrow books
from a library. 34. Make gifts instead of buying them. 35. And wrap them in a scarf
that can be enjoyed over and over instead of paper.
36. If you have a baby, consider cloth diapering as an
alternative to disposable ones. 37. Can & preserve
your own food. 38. Eat one meal by candlelight a month. Corny? A little. Fun?
Hell yes. 39. Use green cosmetics. 40. Improve
your driving habits & waste less gas. 41. Invest in solar power in your
home and garden. 42. Decorate with
houseplants and detox your rooms. 43. Make the switch to a Divacup. 44.
Offset your carbon footprint when you travel.
45. Don’t buy a new car. 46. Start a local beautification project. 47. Choose carton over
plastic. 48. Write your senator and ask them to support environmentally-friendly
laws. 49. Only burn environmentally-safe products. 50. And above all, respect
your body, respect your mind, and respect Mother Earth.

Love this! I can't wait to use cloth diapers next time around!! What is a local beautification project? That sounds awesome. I like buying second hand/vintage as much as possible and I ditched cosmetics a long time ago and use coconut oil for basically everything lol
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
ReplyDeleteI live in NYC so I walk everywhere. My sons school has a chicken coop funny huh right in the city. Stop by my blog sometime and say hi.
ReplyDeleteHey Elizabeth! A beautification project can be anything from helping clean up a school or park, painting a mural or planting flowers in a local area. Obviously it is important to get permission first but I have found in the past that it can be a lot of fun, especially for kids!
ReplyDeleteSuzie, that sounds like one awesome school!
Thank you so much for sharing these ideas! One of my goals this year is to go more green and I have some of the ideas above in motion, some being planned (like chickens) and others I can now work on implementing. xx
ReplyDeleteThat's great Rhiannon. I too have been planning on raising chickens once we settle down somewhere. Until then, it's daydreaming about coops haha.
