Things I Wish I Had Done (While Pregnant)

A good friend of mine is expecting her first (yay!) and through answering her questions and talking about my pregnancy experience I got to thinking about the sort of things I wish had known/done when I was pregnant with the Rosebud. I wanted to brainstorm a list for her and any other mama out there expecting, not to mention keep this as a reminder to myself if we have more children down the line. Altogether I don’t really have any regrets per se but I do wish I had...

1...Savored those pre-baby date nights. A quiet dinner out is a total luxury once the baby arrived.

2…Taken lots of pictures through the months and really appreciate that growing bump. I hardly have any photos of my pregnancy.

3…Maternity clothes are damn expensive but having a couple cute preggo-skinny jeans would really be nice in the long run. Also, hitting up the thrift shops for some cheap outfits is better than forking over the $$ for tops and dresses.

4…Found the will to exercise more. For me this was tough because I suffered from hyperemesis gravadium 24/7 but swimming was good, I only wish I had kept it up in the 3rd trimester. Same goes for yoga.

5…Not been so hard on myself for having an induction and using an epidural. Perhaps its because I tend to lean towards a natural/ hippie lifestyle, but looking back I stressed a lot about my decision to give birth at a traditional hospital. It was  for the best given that I had a very serious freak complication during labor and the doctors were able to save my life. In hindsight I am grateful that I went to a regular hospital.

6…Brought more things to the delivery room to make the experience more comfortable. Essential oils, my own gown, a comfy pillow, music, snacks. These were the sort of things I didn’t even think about when throwing together a bag.

  1. I always wish I would've make my own baby food. They have so many little gadgets that make it easy to turn fruits and veggies into fruit. I saw on pinterest an idea to freeze baby food in ice cube trays so you have perfect portions... Woulda shoulda coulda.
