Charity Spotlight: Plan International USA

Plan International USA has been a part of our family since early last year when we began our sponsorship of Rosa, a darling little girl from Peru. For those who are unfamiliar with this amazing organization, Plan International USA is a charity that is built on the goal of improving the lives of children and their families all around the world.  Their community-based programs have projects in numerous areas such as education, economic security, health (including sexual health/HIV), water and sanitation, emergencies, protection, and child participation. And through their sponsorship program you get the chance to form a lifelong friendship with a child who is seeing the direct positive impact these programs can have.

I feel blessed for what this group has done for us by giving my family a chance to connect with Rosa and her mother.  Although we are thousands of miles away we have been able to build a friendship with Rosa and her mother through letters, drawings and pictures. In our home, their photos hang beside photos of our loved ones. Because even though we have never met, I feel our two families are connected in the spirit of friendship. When I read the words of Rosa’s mother, I know that she and I want the same things for our daughters. We want them to grow up healthy, to have a safe and secure home and receive an education.
