Unexpected Lessons from Motherhood
Forget the books, the blogs, the countless articles from "experts" who supposedly know what they're talking about. At the end of the day parenting is about balance, about finding your rhythm and just learning to grow. Grow along side your kid, try your best & just love love love. I guess I'm writing this for myself, as a reminder. A gentle nudge to say "chill, braj". This journey has just begun but already motherhood has taught me greatly that...
1. Humor is a cure-all. Hang ups at work and burnt out lightbulbs can't frustrate you if you just learn to laugh. Laugh and be healed by the sound of your baby's laughter too. Doesn't matter what kind of day I have been having, as soon as I have that squishy little baby in my arms, everything seems ten times easier, ten times better.
2. Don't sweat the small stuff. Going right along with number one. Sure it's a cliche but thats because it is so true. Being a mom has made me realize to prioritize my stresses if you will. Faced with something that feels potentially disasterous I always ask myself: "Is this worth getting upset over?" "Is this worth distracting me from playtime with the baby mermaid?" Yeah, exactly.
3. Schedules are great, schedules are fantastic. But you can't schedule special moments. Savor them, dirty dishes can wait.
4. Clean clothes. If it isn't covered in baby spitup, you're good.
5. Live life with whimsy. Having a child is a second chance to rekindle the magic of exploring the world for the first time. I find myself enjoying silly things because, well, it makes Rosie smile.
