My Dream Garden

We have been spending a lot more time outside these days, tending to our little container garden. We are using Seeds of Change seeds to grow several pots of beefsteak tomatoes, cilantro and basil. We have another pot where strawberries are just starting to sprout too. If we had it our way half the yard would be turned into one big garden but since this is our temporary home, a container garden is what we are working with. Someday, though, I want to grow all our food!

Having a well manicured lawn has never appealed to me. On top of the amount of water it takes to maintain it, you get nothing out of it. But a garden however, can be both practical and beautiful. I picture having a bed of thyme, cilantro, oregano and all sorts of other herbs. I want onions, garlic, tomatoes, cucumbers and of course a bunch of fruit too. My garden will be a sanctuary and yet also a place for laughter, games, and an maybe an outdoor dinner party or two.

Realistically, my "dream garden" may be a ways down the road. We still have a lot of adventuring ahead of ourselves as a family before we will put down any roots. But I know we have at least this to look forward to someday!

  1. I know what you mean - we lived in a rented apartment for many years and relied on container gardening for our herbs and small vegetables. Along the way, I discovered loads of great ideas for small space/indoor gardening if you ever need any help brainstorming. :)
